BEHIND THE SEAMS: The Handplane Holster
Hark! We’ve made a special, limited run of carry-goods for our upcoming event with our latest retailer, the Canvas Shop in Seal Beach. On Jan 28th, they along with Woodshed Films will be screening an epic bodysurfing movie and they’ve asked us to add to the nights festivities by selling our newest creation – a handplane holdster.
You’re probably scratching your head thinking, “A handplane huh? What’s a handplane?” In short, a handplane basically a little surfboard for your hands. Bodysurfers like to use them for swimming and gliding along the open face of waves. Most are made from wood or fiberglass and have some sort of canvas strap for easy gripping. Best part about ‘em, the design interpretation pretty much follows the philosophy of the activity itself, no rules. What’s certain though is that they’re an absolute blast as they really do help to enhance bodysurfing performance for those silly enough to slide.
For those not in tune, bodysurfing has seen a big resurgence in the surfing community in recent times. More people are doing it. More people are documenting it. It’s infinitely less complicated and infinitely more fun. Now, we know not all of you are bodysurfers by nature or event live at the coast, so you’ll be happy to know these little “handplane holsters” can do alot more than just tote salty surf-related gear. Let’s just say we’re also big fans of a “no rules” ethos.
Essentially this new creation is a compact, quick-access sling thing that makes for neat carry no matter what little goods you roll with. For the purposes of this post, we’ve placed a Nine Lights handplane (so fun) in it paired with a able set of Da Fins (so comfy). But, be on the look for future photos with all kinds of carryables. Yes, carryables. The holdster’s carefully chosen nautical stylings have been handcrafted from repurposed canvas sailboat covers, dock rope and even features sea-weathered clasps. So whether you’re in search of the perfect wave or just a fresh new look, this limited edition good will be something you’ll want to call your own.
Look for them at the Canvas Shop on January 28th followed by a special debut in our online store shortly thereafter. Be sure to peep the Goldfish Handplane from Nine Lights Surfboards when you’ve got a few. Seriously, too fun.
Oh! Special shout out and thank you to Big Dougie for the modeling. You’re a legend.
